1. A first

   Dolenz's modular Moog synthesizer was the third one sold commercially, following Wendy Carlos and Buck Owens. He played it on the Monkees' "Daily Nightly," from Pisces, Aquarius, Capricorn & Jones Ltd., marking an early synthesizer appearance on a rock recording.

2. Big break

   Dolenz liked singing Chuck Berry's "Johnny B. Goode" and performed it when he tried out for the Monkees, which got him brought in as a cast and band member.

3. A role that slipped away

   For the part of Arthur "The Fonz" Fonzarelli on Happy Days, Micky Dolenz and Michael Nesmith both tried out, and Dolenz was said to have made it to the final round of candidates.

4. Behind the camera

   Dolenz directed and produced Metal Mickey, a British television sitcom, in 1980. The show centered on a large metallic robot whose catch-phrase was "boogie boogie."

5. Beyond film

   Dolenz took the stage in London in 1977, appearing at the Mermaid Theatre in a production of Harry Nilsson's musical The Point! He sang and played the "Count's Kid" and the Leafman, while former bandmate Davy Jones starred as Oblio.
