Huey Lewis

Did you know?!

1. Behind the camera

Lewis produced Nick Lowe's 1985 version of "I Knew the Bride (When She Used to Rock and Roll)", having known Lowe from playing harmonica on his 1979 album.

2. About the name

Lewis took the stage name Hughie Louis when he joined the Bay Area band Clover in 1971, and kept tinkering with the spelling for years after.

3. A change of course

In an interview with David Letterman, Lewis said that while he was hitchhiking back to New York City across the country, he learned to play the harmonica as he waited for rides.

4. A first

While in Madrid, Spain, Lewis busked with his harmonica and hitchhiked to get by, and he became an accomplished blues player. His first concerts were in Madrid, and the money he earned paid for a plane ticket back to the US.

5. A change of course

Lewis dropped out of Cornell University in December 1969 during his junior year to move back to the San Francisco Bay Area and keep playing music.
