Plot summary
Irene Agnew has been engaged for four years to her cousin Waldo, a match arranged by her older sister Margit and their mother before her. Waldo is pliable and weak-willed and shows no initiative. Margit is a successful, hardworking businesswoman who is determined that Irene marry Waldo. Charlie Lodge, a free-spirited bohemian living in a car trailer full of clutter, convinces Irene that she should become an actress. That disrupts Margit's well-ordered life, and Irene becomes infatuated with Charlie.
