Biography

Priscilla Lawson was an American actress whose best-known part was Princess Aura in the 1936 serial Flash Gordon. Born in Indianapolis, she modeled in her early adult years, and in 1935 she was named Miss Miami Beach, which led to chorus work for Earl Carroll at the Miami Casino. A Universal Studios contract followed, and the studio used her in small roles before she was cast as the voluptuous daughter of Ming the Merciless in Flash Gordon (1936). Princess Aura's competition with Dale Arden for Flash Gordon's attention was central to the serial and brought Lawson a cult following. In Science Fiction Serials, Roy Kinnard noted that censors objected to her revealing costume, and co-star Jean Rogers said retakes of the first chapter were ordered. Her screen career ended in 1941.
