Plot summary
Mysterious alien portals nicknamed doors appear across the world without warning, and news broadcasts link them to mass disappearances and to drastic changes in daily life. In the opening scenes a disoriented man wanders a forest alone, apparently having come through one of them. The first story unfolds on the day the doors arrive, at a high school where students sit an exam in detention. A lockdown is announced, phones erupt with emergency alerts, and the teacher goes to investigate but does not come back. Venturing into the hallway, the students find that a door has materialized just outside their classroom. Ash begins hearing voices and seeing visions, and the pull of the portal stirs tension with their crush Lizzie and Lizzie's boyfriend Jake.
