Plot summary
After her mother's death, Abby returns to Niagara Falls, the town where she grew up, to settle the estate with her estranged younger sister, Laure. Their inheritance is The Rainbow, a defunct motel that Laure wants to sell to the Lake family, who are prominent locally. Abby is reluctant to let the motel go. At seven she had watched two adults force a boy with an eyepatch into the trunk of a car near the water and said nothing, and she is still haunted by it. Locals believe the boy killed himself. Walter Bell, a podcaster who dives for items carried down by the falls, doubts that, since no trace of the body was found.
