Plot summary
Steve Mitchell is sent secretly to the United States embassy in Bucharest, Romania, to neutralize a nuclear device that has remained in the building since the Cold War ended. Erica Long, a diplomatic attaché, works with him to enter the correct computer code and disable the weapon. From an abandoned surveillance room, Steve watches video monitors as the Serbian Liberation Front storms the embassy. The group holds thirty-seven hostages, among them Steve's stepson, and demands the release of its jailed leader, accused of war crimes.
