Plot summary
Three weeks after a car crash, a man regains consciousness in a private clinic with no memory of his life. He is told his name is Georges Campo, which means nothing to him. Christiane, a woman he does not recognize, says she is his wife and brings him to a mansion inside walled grounds to recover. There a doctor, Frédéric Launay, introduces himself as an old friend from the years the two men spent in business in Hong Kong. The butler, Kiem, is offhand with him. He is instructed to rest and take large amounts of medication, and Christiane tells him that marital relations are out of the question until he is fully well.
