Plot summary

The Satsuki Cup, the tournament that crowns Japan's Ogura Hyakunin Isshu karuta champion, is being filmed at Nichiuri TV in autumn. A bombing turns the venue into chaos. The only two people left inside are Heiji and Kazuha, who are pulled out by Conan. The bomber's identity and motive stay unknown. Amid the confusion Conan meets Momiji Ooka, the Kyoto High School karuta champion, who introduces herself as Heiji's fiancée. Kazuha is set to face her in the Hyakunin Isshu contest, so she trains with Shizuka, Heiji's mother and a skilled karuta player. In a house in Arashiyama, on the outskirts of Kyoto, the holder of the Satsuki Cup title is killed, karuta cards scattered around the body. Conan and Heiji join the Osaka and Kyoto police to investigate the Satsuki Cup and the killing.
