Plot summary
Over summer vacation Nobita and his friends are shooting a space war film with a diorama at Suneo's house, and Nobita is left out of the fun. He then comes across a tiny rocket carrying Papi, the president of the planet Pirika, who is hiding from General Gilmore's rebel army and its agent Dorakoruru. Doraemon and the others befriend the small visitor, and with the Small Light they are made small like him so they can play together. When the whale-shaped battleship that chased Papi reaches Earth, the friends set out to protect him. Papi feels responsible for the danger he has brought them, and wants to face the PCIA army himself.

Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Doraemon: Nobita's Little Star Wars 2021 (2022)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- Because the original story separated Papi from Nobita early on, leaving no room to show their bonding, screenwriter Dai Sato and director Susumu Yamaguchi shortened that first half and, for the same reason, added a new character: Papi's older sister Piina.
- The film was the first in the Doraemon series to use real miniatures in some backgrounds as a tribute to 20th-century special effects movies, while the character designs were kept close to the original without looking old-fashioned.
- Director Susumu Yamaguchi decided to remake the 1985 Nobita's Little Star Wars because making an original film was too difficult given the schedules; Nobita and the Castle of the Undersea Devil was also suggested but dropped as its underwater scenes were hard to animate.
SPOILER
In the original, Papi's scream came when his death sentence was announced, but since the public never witnessed it, the remake moved the scream to Gilmore's coronation ceremony, which drove the public to rise up.- Director Susumu Yamaguchi cast Teruyuki Kagawa as Gilmore, the dictator of Planet Pirika, after writing him a letter asking him to play "the most hated person", and Kagawa acted with his body and gestures.
