Plot summary
Film producer Foster Brenner dies when a bomb planted under the diving board of his swimming pool goes off. The case is assigned to Lt. Brice, but Los Angeles police detective Jim Corrigan, who has been seeing Brenner's daughter Aimee, investigates the murder anyway. Brenner's butler, Flemming, shows him security footage of two masked men placing the bomb and says several longtime collaborators left out of Brenner's recent films were angry about it. Corrigan asks for their names. Corrigan's narration observes that in Los Angeles, fame and fortune can draw the worst out of anyone. The Spectre, meanwhile, has his own way of dealing with the suspects.
