Plot summary

In the 12th century, the priest Rangarajan Nambi blocks King Kulothunga II's plan to destroy a Vishnu idol and is executed in the sea. Nine hundred years later, Govindarajan Ramaswamy, a researcher in the United States, works on a synthetic virus meant as a bioweapon. After a lab monkey dies from it, he refuses to hand it over and discovers that his superior, Dr. Sethu, intends to sell it to terrorists. Govind takes the vial and runs. The vial is mailed to India in a mix-up, and Christian Fletcher, a former CIA agent hired to retrieve it, pursues him. In Chidambaram it reaches an elderly woman, Krishnaveni, who hides it inside a Vishnu idol, and her devout granddaughter Andal believes Govind means to steal the idol.
