Plot summary
Gandhi Mahaan grows up gambling, unlike his father Mohandoss, who campaigns against liquor. As a boy he makes his childhood friend Sathyavan Soosaiyappan lose at cards, having no choice because Gnanodhayam, known as Gnanam, has kidnapped his dog Joker. The fight brings in their parents, and Mohandoss makes him promise to lead the liquor-ban movement. By 1996 Gandhi is a forty-year-old commerce teacher, married to Nachi and father to Dada. On his official birthday he meets the beggar Manickam, who tells him he lives like the ninety-five percent who keep their principles, not like the five percent who do not. Nachi goes to Tirupati with friends, and Gandhi spends his real birthday in a bar, where his former student Rocky leads him to Sathya, who runs the place. Gandhi comes home late, and Nachi leaves him, taking Dada.
