Plot summary
A farmer named Ron insists one of his horses was stolen, but Sheriff Paul Shields and his deputy Donny Saunders find no evidence of theft and take it that the animal slipped out through an open gate. Paul's son Adam sees something cross the window that night, and by morning prints from a hoofed animal that walks on two legs circle every house in Maiden Woods. Paul assumes a prank until he and Donny trace the tracks to claw marks in the trees and the town's animals begin to disappear. Hunters tell Paul old stories of a creature living in the woods, and Earl notes a new predator may have arrived. One night Paul is called out to Ron's farm, where he watches the creature try the stable doors and then flee.
