Plot summary
Lily Brown comes to work at Danceland, the dance hall Duke McKay manages, where pianist Joe Brooks provides the music. Duke shields Joe from Moon, an oafish bully, and Lily thinks Duke is picking on Moon. Duke explains and tries his lines on her; she is too worldly for them. That night Lily cannot sleep because Duke is running a crap game in the hotel room across the hall. She joins in, wins all the money, and reveals that she is Venus, the popular singer booked to start at Danceland the next evening. At rehearsal the next day, Joe plays the rhapsody he is writing, The Giant Swing. After her show, Duke says he is sorry for his earlier conduct and suggests a drive into the country.
