June Storey
Biography
June Storey was a Canadian-born American actress whose screen work included 45 films during the 1930s and 1940s. Born in Toronto, she grew up in Southern California, where she attended Laguna Beach High School and acted with the Laguna Beach Little Theater. After an uncredited debut in Student Tour, Fox signed her as a contract player; she studied acting with Florence Enright and dance with Eduardo Cansino. Her first credited role came in Girls Dormitory (1936), and she later appeared in In Old Chicago (1938). In 1939 she moved to Republic Pictures and became Gene Autry's leading lady in ten of his westerns. Writer Hans J. Wollstein called her Autry's perfect leading lady, competent and willing to work long hours on location. Her output slowed after Autry left for wartime service. Later roles included The Strange Woman (1946) and The Snake Pit (1948); her last credited film was Miss Mink of 1949.
