Plot summary
Loren Collins was learning to be a chef in the US Navy, and a clash with an officer ends his career there. With no money for cooking studies, he goes to Dijon, where Louis Boyer hires him. Boyer is a bad-tempered man who owns a prestigious restaurant and is an internationally known master chef who writes books. Those books first pushed Loren toward the trade, and he takes a trainee's place in his hero's kitchen to learn haute cuisine.
