Plot summary
In 1880, Rafe Covington is aboard a ship bound for San Francisco with his friend Charles Rodney, who is dying after a beating by the ship's captain. Rodney makes Covington swear to look after his ranch in the Wyoming Territory and his wife, Anne. Covington travels to Wyoming with Rock Mullaney and J.T. Langston, and finds the ranch deserted. They set to work restoring it, and Covington rides into town to tell Anne what happened. She refuses to believe him, having been told a year earlier that Rodney died in a fight with a Sioux war party. Wealthy businessman Bruce Barkow, who runs the town and is courting Anne, wants the ranch for himself.
