Plot summary
Dr. Tyrone Brower, a research scientist at Everett University, runs a study for Northlight Pharmaceuticals on Klaralon, a painkiller promoted as the first that does not cause dependence. His results trouble him, and when he recommends delaying its release, Northlight, a major donor to the university, pushes back. In Detroit, DEA agent Jake Kelly has infiltrated two fentanyl operations, an Armenian network of pill mills and a Montreal cartel led by Claude 'Mother' Veroche, and aims to bring both leaders into one room. Architect Claire Reimann, in recovery from Oxycodone, is alarmed when her sixteen-year-old son David does not come home from hockey practice, and the police call his death accidental. Claire is certain he did not use drugs.
