Plot summary
Niles left the Navy to be with Emily. She, her brother Randy, his girlfriend Beth, and siblings Oscar and Karen ride with them through the backwoods of Fort Collins, Louisiana. Stopping at Chopper's gas station, Oscar finds a shrine to a local legend, Lockjaw, and the locals send the group to the house of Grimley, whom they describe as a figure of local lore. Oscar and Karen talk the others into the detour. On the way Oscar recounts how Grimley Boutine and his sister Caroline, the last of their clan, came to be tied to the swamp; nobody believes him. Reaching the house, they camp for a night of drinking and fun, unaware that they are being watched.
