Biography

John Longden was a British film actor who appeared in more than 80 films from 1926 to 1964, among them six directed by Alfred Hitchcock. He played in My Old Dutch and appeared in The Farmer's Wife, which Barry Jackson staged at London's Court Theatre. Longden began appearing in silent films and joined Gaumont British Pictures under a contract to write and act. He had notable success with Hitchcock's Blackmail (1929) and directed Come Into My Parlour, released by MGM in 1932. In Australia he appeared in The Silence of Dean Maitland (1934), Thoroughbred (1936), and It Isn't Done (1937). Returning to Britain, he continued in theater and film, including An Honourable Murder (1960), and took guest roles on The Adventures of Robin Hood. He died in 1971.
