Plot summary

High schooler Sarah is estranged from her mother and effectively homeless, sleeping outside or staying with friends. She is troubled by recurring dreams of a maze and a shadowy figure whose eyes glow. Needing money, she joins a sleep study with a classified purpose. Initially she rests well, but after two sessions the nightmares worsen. The study's only other female participant leaves, and Sarah panics when a researcher shows her an image of the same figure. She learns that a young scientist nicknamed Riff has been following her outside the lab. Confronting him, she insists she will quit unless he explains. He tells her the experiment uses a brain-scanning device to record and display dreams.
