Plot summary
Arimathea, governed by the Jewish elite of the Sanhedrin under Roman administration, is a city where the Jewish population faces persecution and discrimination. Into it comes Jesus of Nazareth, a Black Jew who has crossed the wilderness of Judea with twelve disciples to keep the Passover, and the following he has gathered as a man called a messiah unsettles the Sanhedrin. Its members call an emergency meeting: some doubt that a Black man could be the messiah, and the assembly weighs how to seize and question him over alleged blasphemy, while Roman soldiers patrol in search of him. John, a disciple, finds a guest home where the Passover meal can be eaten out of sight, and Mary, the mother of Jesus, believes her son is being singled out because of his race.
