Trailer

Plot summary

In 2029, the spacecraft Nautilus is preparing to land on Mercury, carrying Commander Marshall Donnington, flight engineer Victoria Preston and pilot Lee Tahon. An unexpected solar flare erupts from the sun, magnetizing Mercury and tearing at its surface. The Nautilus escapes the first blow, then its engines fail and the ship is caught. Mercury fractures, yet the magnetism holds it together, and the fractured planet heads toward Earth. On Earth, scientist James Preston lectures on how unpredictable asteroids, comets and solar flares are, and describes a planetary defense system he calls Project Seven. Mission ops tells him contact with the Nautilus has been lost. He reaches Jennifer Kelly at a facility named Sphere and obtains the command codes for Project Seven before his house loses power. A magnetic wave then crosses Earth, damaging satellites and pulling at metal.
