Plot summary
Henry Cole is an acclaimed classical pianist near the end of his career. His wife has died, and he has been away from performing. When he comes back, stage fright and mental instability mar the recital. An anxiety attack hits him on stage. After the number ends, he goes outside to smoke. At the press conference that follows, he meets Helen Morrison. She is a music critic for The New Yorker. She wants to write about him and asks to interview him. He says no.
