Plot summary
In Summit Valley, Colorado, Kayla Morgan is preparing for the Fire and Ice contest with Nick Swift, her boyfriend, whose father, Sebastian, coaches their team. One night Nick and his friends take a sled that belongs to Will Cloud, a snowboarder who ended his career and now works at his family's kennel, and they talk Kayla into riding it. The sled crashes into a lodge sign, and Kayla loses her place on the team. Until she can pay for the sled, she works at the kennel, where she and Will argue about how good she really is. Kayla asks Will to coach her for Fire and Ice and offers to renovate the kennel, but he says no. She then gathers his former teammates into a group she calls the Hot Doggers.
