Christmas Jars (2019) on Netflix

Plot summary

Hope Jensen, twenty-two, works as an assistant to Lyle Butler, editor of the online publication Metro Buzz Columbus, while hoping to become a reporter. Her apartment is broken into, and her adoptive mother Louise, her only living relative, has died of cancer. In the aftermath, a jar of money marked Christmas Jar is left at her door. Online searches show a handful of people in Columbus have received such jars over the past decade, all of them in need at the time. At a pitch meeting for Christmas stories, Lyle approves Hope's idea to investigate the jars; she has two weeks to report and write it. She wants the givers to know what the jars have meant to the people who received them.
