Plot summary
Kaslan Corporation has released Buddi, a new line of dolls built to serve as lifelong companions, learning from what goes on around them through artificial intelligence. At the company's assembly plant in Vietnam, a worker who has just been dismissed shuts off one unit's safety protocols. In Chicago, Karen Barclay, a widowed retail clerk, has moved with Andy, her hearing-impaired twelve-year-old son, into a new apartment after her husband's death. To lift the boy's spirits, she pressures her boss into letting her take a Buddi doll home, and it is the altered unit. Switched on, the doll calls himself Chucky and grows attached to Andy, who through him befriends two other children, Falyn and Pugg. Chucky also begins to show violent tendencies.

- Mark Hamill was the first choice to voice Chucky and said yes when the filmmakers asked, even though they thought there was no way it would ever happen; they called having an icon reimagine an iconic character an incredible gift.
- Visual effects company MastersFX spent six weeks building seven practical animatronic puppets for the film, each with interchangeable arms and heads, with Pixomondo providing the CGI.
- Composer Bear McCreary built the score from a "toy orchestra" inspired by Chucky's toy-store origins, using toy pianos, hurdy-gurdies, accordions, plastic guitars and otamatones.
- Brad Dourif was set to reprise his role as Chucky in a planned early-2010s remake of Child's Play, announced before Curse of Chucky went into development, but that remake was subsequently canceled.
