Plot summary
Henry Page is a high school senior who wants to be a writer and to run the school newspaper. The faculty advisor gives the editor job to him and Grace Town together. Grace is a new student in his class who walks with a limp and uses a cane, and she is sullen and keeps to herself. She rejects his early attempts to talk to her. After Henry misses his bus on the first day, they end up on the same route home.
