Plot summary
Frank Gilbreth is a time-and-motion study and efficiency expert, and his wife Lillian is a psychologist. The couple raise twelve children, first in Providence, Rhode Island, in the 1920s and later in Montclair, New Jersey. Frank looks for ways to make work faster, and at home his teaching methods clash with the children. He films his children's tonsillectomies to find ways to speed up the operation. He chaperones one daughter at her prom and spends the evening talking and dancing with her friends. Frank is sent to Europe to give lectures in Prague and London.
