Benny Bartlett
Biography
Benny Bartlett was an American child actor and musician who later became part of the long-running Bowery Boys comedy series. Born in Independence in 1924, he first took the stage as an infant and was playing trumpet by age four, leading his own dance orchestra on radio. His screen debut came in 1935 with the RKO musical Millions in the Air, after which Paramount signed him and considered him for the title role in Tom Sawyer, Detective before shelving that project. He played an adolescent bandleader in the Columbia short Swing, You Swingers! and took incidental parts in features such as Thank Your Lucky Stars. After serving in World War II, he took a prominent role in the Gas House Kids films made by PRC, and William Beaudine brought him to the Bowery Boys, where he stayed off and on until 1955. He appeared in Alfred Hitchcock's Rear Window (1954) and retired from acting in 1958.
