Plot summary
In a park, a man tries to romance a matronly woman in a fur stole. He steps away to a concession stall called Cornucopias, and Charlie, in his tramp costume, approaches with a rose. He nearly soaks himself at the drinking fountain and makes the woman laugh, then sits beside her on the bench. The man comes back furious, grabs Charlie by the face, argues with the woman, and his swinging arms knock Charlie over the bench. The couple return to their hotel. Charlie, despondent, goes to a bar, meets a policeman outside, and staggers across a wide road to the same hotel, falling over a gout-stricken man's leg at the reception desk. He reads the register to find the couple's room.
