Plot summary
Ryan O'Shea and his brother James serve on the police department's SWAT team, where their colleagues know them as Hoss and Bones. Their childhood friend and fellow officer Squirt dies of AIDS. James, the team's leader, honors Squirt's memory by staying the diligent cop, while Ryan, who has wanted to act all his life, begins taking the stage. A theater director starts to mentor the new actor. Ryan's enthusiasm meets James's contempt for the theater and for the people he blames for Squirt's illness. He weighs his commitment to the SWAT team against his wish to leave law enforcement for the theater.
