Call of the Wild (2009) on Netflix

Plot summary

Ryann Hale is ten years old and comes to Montana to stay with her grandfather, Bill Hale, while her parents travel abroad. A wounded wolf-dog appears on the back porch, and a doctor who examines the animal finds him badly hurt. Ryann nurses him back to health and names him Buck. She wants to take him home to Boston, but Bill tells her a half-wild creature cannot be tamed, and each night he reads her from an adventure novel about a sled dog. A teenager named Jack sees that Buck could lead a sled team and begins training him. Heep and his son Ozz Heep claim the dog as their own, and Sheriff Taylor proposes a race, with the winner taking Buck.
