Plot summary
In 1920s French colonial Cambodia, two Indochinese tiger brothers, Sangha and Kumal, are born in the jungle to a protective tigress. A hunter, Aidan McRory, kills their father. The cubs are then parted. Kumal is caught by villagers and sold to a circus run by Zerbino and Saladin, whose handlers train him through abuse to perform stunts. Sangha is taken in by Raoul, the eight-year-old son of the French administrator Eugene Normandin, and becomes the boy's companion at the residency. When the family can no longer keep him, Sangha is sent to a palace menagerie and held there as a royal captive.
