Plot summary

Thomas Arkwright lectures at the Public School of Arts and paints at night, and one of his outlandish works catches the eye of art student Mya Westbrook, who paints the buildings near her home but cannot win over the gallery curators she hopes to impress. Mya is drawn to the mysterious motif of Arkwright's piece, which draws on the eerie visions and strange dreams that trouble him, and she asks him to tutor her. He agrees and is glad to find a student willing to work hard. Before the lessons can begin, Arkwright disappears, and neither his school nor the authorities try to find him. Setting aside her homebody nature, Mya follows clues in his unearthly paintings and sets out to find her mentor on her own.
