Plot summary
Juliette is a Canadian magazine editor who travels to Cairo for a vacation with Mark, her husband, a UN official working at camps for refugees in the Gaza Strip. Their children have grown and she looks forward to time with him. Mark is delayed in Gaza and asks Tareq, his friend, to watch over her. Tareq, a retired police officer, becomes a regular companion as she waits, showing her the city and the surrounding area. She makes friends among Cairo locals and among North American and European residents, Kathryn among them.

- Canada had no co-production treaty with Egypt, so Cairo Time needed another way to shoot there: Ruba Nadda introduced producer Daniel Iron to David Collins of Ireland's Samson Films, whose company joined, making the film a Canada-Ireland co-production and clearing the shoot.
- Cairo Time sold out every show in New York and Los Angeles on its opening weekend, taking $12,450 a theater, the best per-theater average of any film then in release.
