Plot summary

A police officer who is tracking a criminal walks into an unfinished subway tunnel, and his flashlight picks out a scorpion-like bug three meters long. One swing of the creature's massive tail fells the man, and the bug devours him. The case goes to FBI agent Matt Pollack, and forensics point to the source of the problem. Pollack asks his friend Emily Foster, an entomologist, for help, and she identifies a biological sample taken from a body found in the tunnel as coming from that creature. Pollack and Foster then go down together into the tunnels where the creature was found.
