Plot summary
Their mother is dying of cancer and intends to change her will to benefit the man she married, Rodger. Rather than let the inheritance go, Terry and his brother Jeff come to the family home in Victoria on a cold morning with a plan to kill their stepfather. Rodger is due back at night to sell the family horse, and Jeff has settled on the method: a live radio dropped into a bathtub of water. He writes a to-do list for the day, covering the cleaning of the house, the rehearsal and an alibi that puts the brothers in Sydney for the weekend. Terry follows the instructions while saying plainly that he is frightened and unsure whether to go through with it.
