Plot summary
Kathleen asks her sister, mystery writer Grace Miller, to come back to Washington, D.C. Kathleen has stopped using drugs and has a teaching job, but she is fighting her ex-husband Jonathan for custody of her son and plans to blackmail him to keep the house. Grace also meets Ed Jennings, a homicide detective who lives next door to Kathleen, and they arrange a date. Then Kathleen is strangled while working online as the dominatrix Desiree, after someone hacks her address. Grace pushes into the investigation despite Ed's reluctance, using her knowledge of criminal motive, and starts looking into Kathleen's secret job and the people around her.
