The couple then moved from New York to rural Missouri to care for Nick's ailing mother. The combination of stress and tragedy drive the couple apart. While Nick is dealing with increasing scrutiny, Amy is laying low at a local campground watching her drama unfold on national news. Everything is going as planned. The first hitch in her plan comes when another couple at the campground realize that she is on the run from something, and they rob her. With no money and nowhere to go, Amy turns to an old flame. Meanwhile, Nick has hired the best attorney he can find, Tanner Bolt. Bolt recommends Nick get ahead of the affair story by going on a national talk show to plead for forgiveness.
