In this David Fincher adaptation of the Gillian Flynn novel, average Midwestern guy Nick Dunne finds himself in the middle of a media storm following the disappearance of his wife. The film follows Nick as he attempts to balance searching for his missing wife with not becoming the main suspect. The film is set to release on DVD and Blu-ray on January 13 and will begin its Netflix rotation the 10th of February.

Nick Dunne drifts listlessly through his morning routine on the day of his fifth anniversary. Not long into his day he gets a call from a neighbor letting him know that his cat is out wandering the neighborhood. He returns home to find evidence of an apparent struggle and his wife missing. Doing as any husband would, he phones the police and attempts to aid in the investigation. Since Nick's wife, Amy, is a lifelong public figure, due to a popular series of books based on her childhood, a media circus ensues. Nick's demeanor quickly attracts the attention of journalists and detectives alike. The annual anniversary scavenger hunt takes a sinister turn as evidence hinting at his involvement in the disappearance continues to pile up. Nick and Amy's marriage was disintegrating. It began when they both lost their writing jobs when the recession hit. The couple then moved from New York to rural Missouri to care for Nick's ailing mother. The combination of stress and tragedy drive the couple apart. Nick finds solace in the arms of a beautiful twenty-something coed. The affair is the last straw for Amy. She puts her talent for constructing a narrative to work and begins planning her disappearance. She works out every detail in crafting the perfect murder mystery with which to ensnare her husband. While Nick is dealing with increasing scrutiny, Amy is laying low at a local campground watching her drama unfold on national news. Everything is going as planned. The media have all but convicted Nick before he is even charged, and she is away without a trace. The first hitch in her plan comes when another couple at the campground realize that she is on the run from something, and they rob her. With no money and nowhere to go, Amy turns to an old flame. Meanwhile, Nick has hired the best attorney he can find, Tanner Bolt. Bolt recommends Nick get ahead of the affair story by going on a national talk show to plead for forgiveness. Despite being beat to the punch on breaking the affair, Nick goes ahead with the interview and uses the opportunity to talk directly to Amy. The stage is set for the final act. The film was shot over five weeks in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. It made $166 million domestically and $190 million internationally at the box office on a production budget of around $60 million. Distributed by 20th Century Fox, the film received positive reviews from most critics. It is sure to keep its popularity going with the upcoming release to DVD and Netflix.
