Plot summary
On her first day as an NYPD officer, Megan Turner walks into a supermarket hold-up and shoots the robber dead. His gun is gone from the scene, and the shoppers who were taken hostage cannot clearly say they saw him holding one, so her superiors believe she fired on a man who was not armed. She is pulled off active duty. A spent cartridge left at a murder scene carries her name, and she is returned to work as a homicide detective to help with the inquiry. Paired with Detective Nick Mann, she tries to clear herself and trace whoever is marking bullets with her name, while Assistant Chief Stanley Hoyt and her colleagues remain unconvinced by her version of the shooting.
