Plot summary
Sean Randall is a goth teenager who rides the bus each day with his classmate Deanna Roy. She dates a hockey player, and the other players bully Sean for being different and for being her friend, which angers him. Sean's father collects guns and sometimes takes him hunting. Sean records video of his father killing a deer and plays the clip for classmates, who find it unsettling. A teacher suggests he put his feelings in writing. In a story he posts online, he imagines shooting the hockey players and Deanna with his father's guns, though he intends no harm to anyone. He is then accused of planning a school shooting.
