Plot summary

Jaime Sommers is days away from marrying Steve Austin when her bionic systems begin to act up: her ear amplifies sound until it hurts, and during a racquetball game her right hand gives out. She tells Oscar Goldman, her friend and the OSI's director of operations, that her bionics seem to be breaking down. Dr. Rudy Wells, the surgeon who built her enhancements, takes up the search for a cause. In Nassau, a mercenary named Miles Kendrick and his armed team storm the American Embassy during a ball, taking Ambassador John MacNamara, his wife Carolyn and their guests hostage and deploying a Scud missile with a nuclear core aimed at the city, then demanding that tennis star Astaad Rashid be handed over. Steve, who owes MacNamara a life-saving debt, asks Oscar for the assignment.
