Plot summary
An explosion and fire in a classified research laboratory free the animals kept inside: a golden retriever and a mutated creature bred for combat. The creature chases the dog through the surrounding woods, and the dog takes shelter in the back of Travis Cornell's truck. Travis, who has been out with his girlfriend Tracey, notices how intelligent the stray is and decides to keep it. A military and police force sweeps the area for the escapees, and an agent named Lem Johnson is sent by the corporation that ran the lab to retrieve them. Travis's mother, Nora, disapproves of the dog until she sees the level of intelligence it shows.
