Alan Sader
Biography
Alan Sader was an American actor whose work ranged across film, television and the stage. Born in Bruington, he was an owner and producer of the Tidewater Dinner Theater in Norfolk, Virginia from 1972 to 1982. His film credits included The Prince of Tides (1991) and Evan Almighty (2007), and he appeared in many television series, among them Matlock, Dawson's Creek and Legacy. Viewers in Virginia also knew him from commercials for businesses such as Farm Fresh Supermarkets and Haynes Furniture. He was perhaps best known as the television spokesman for ChildFund International, a child sponsorship charity, a role he began in 1992. In 2011 the Richmond Theatre Critics' Circle named him best actor for his King Lear with Quill Theatre and the Richmond Shakespeare Festival. He died on July 7, 2026, at 85.
