Plot summary
Nate Foster is a 13-year-old in Pittsburgh who wants to perform on Broadway. His parents, Rex and Sherrie, take his ambitions in stride, though his older brother Anthony finds his behavior strange. At school Nate is teased and does not get the parts he wants, and his one friend is Libby, a fellow theater kid with stage fright of her own. She brings him news of auditions for a Broadway version of Lilo & Stitch, and he hesitates. His parents then plan a trip away, which leaves Nate and Libby free to travel to New York City on a bus, with Nate telling no one. At the audition they learn that a parent or guardian has to be with them, and Nate runs into his aunt Heidi, a struggling actress, and introduces her as his guardian.
