Plot summary
Charlotte Sanders and her husband Rob live modestly in a small apartment, and each December Charlotte reads the Christmas letter from her college friend Jackie Jennings, which reports Beatrix's brilliance and Daniel's travels as he works to change the world. Charlotte answers with her own household: daughter Dora and her Marvel comics, son Grant and his stuffed monkey, Rob's dream of flipping houses, and her own inventor plans, set aside. Grant takes his mother's sarcasm literally and drives them to the Jennings' house rather than to her sister Stacy's for the holiday. The Sanders mean to leave the next morning, but snow keeps them there.
