Plot summary
Thomas Walsh runs a construction crew on Mount Lincoln, the mountain above the town of Ascension. Tremors shake the slope and one of his men is killed. His sister Grace plans to camp up there with her boyfriend, Jerrod Dietrich. Their father William, whom the town treats as an eccentric, argues that an ancient being sleeps inside the mountain and is about to break free. Emily Allington, a geologist, comes back to her hometown to study the tremors, and Thomas is an old friend. Jack Murray, an army representative, arrives in Ascension searching for a mysterious wallet lost on the mountain.
