Plot summary
Marking 30 years since the animated film's Best Picture nomination, the special mixes clips and sketches from the original with live musical numbers on new sets and in new costumes. The story it retells is that of Belle, a book-loving young woman, and the Beast, a prince an enchantress turned into a monster because of his arrogance. A hunter named Gaston, self-absorbed and obsessed with Belle, means to have her. In the castle the staff live under the same spell: Lumière is a candelabra, Cogsworth a mantel clock, Mrs. Potts a teapot, and her son Chip a teacup. Belle's father Maurice is an inventor. A narrator guides the audience through the tale.
